My husband and I and our young son went to Ossawippi express several years ago and althought the setting was unusual the food that I ordered - steak and kidney pie was swimming in so much oil it was unbeleivable. My son also thought that the orange juice was a little off tasting. L.Bird

What a great place more people should know about this, definately one of a kind in Ontario, where the food is still real and the menu is not so foo foo that you don't know what you are eating . Saw this on Restaurant makeover TV show and thought I would try ...Glad I did and the chef from the show, well he clearly does not have a feel for what this place is and all about,or the costomerrs that come her and have been for over 36 years , How many restaurants in Toronto last that long? Perhaps only a handfull, like who does not know that Gordon Lightfoot was raised in Orillia, maybe he even frequented this place who knows

We were there the Same Evening as the dissappointed lady below and would like to add that her comments are un fair and unjust and should always use caution, and we have seen these comments from her on other sites. And If we were the Restaurant I would sue for public slander. it is unfortunate that they did not enjoy the evening, we have all had our share of bad times but get over it! Public Slander is a serious thing and thinking the internet will protect you is wrong!!!! been there and done that..... The establishement will have your name on file As the did ours, and I have seen these comments on another site , but move on......

Our personal expereince was great and will return we went to relax and enjoy the atmosphere not expecting the Drama of belows guests, and we are returning soon...

Not bad. I think having the waitresses running all the way back to the kitchen and into different cars makes it longer than normal when you are waiting for something. Found it a little pricey for the quality pleasant surroundings.

Thoroughly disastisfied!

Our waitressess' voice was twice as loud as the rest of the patron's and disrupted other conversations whenever she spoke. She appeared annoyed and frazzled. After we ordered a bottle of wine, she returned to tell us it was unavailable so we ordered another. She came back ten minutes later to tell us that it too was unavailable and the only red wine she had left were the two bottles in her hand (she recommended one over the other and we took it). Our food came out overcooked to well-done for each patron (we had ordered med-rare) and the same side dishes (bland potatoes & zuchinni and a mashed squash with more ginger in it than squash) with every entree, despite the fact that we ordered three separate things. While we ate we heard various curse words coming from our waitress in the kitchen (lovely, given we had our toddler with us!). She did not return to ask us how our meals were until we had finished, at which point we told her about the doneness. She told us she would tell the chef but came back later with the bill without another word. We were very disappointed to see that we were charged the full price for the wine we drank (as it was 40$ and 28$ more than our 1st and 2nd choices) when it was their wine list that was inaccurately reflecting their wine inventory. We asked the waitress about it and she was visibally annoyed at our request and mumbled something about talking to the chef. My father-in-law took our son outside to look at the train cars and on the way out could hear our waitress arguing loudly with the chef (who agreed it was she who had made the mistake by suggesting the more pricey bottle of wine to replace our own choices). She returned a few min later and literally TOSSED the bill at my husband and said there, I fixed it for you! and ran off. She didn't come back for more than 10 min so finally, when she walked by again, my husband asked her if she wanted the bill with his credit card. She snatched it up without a word.

While the food was boring, bland, and uninspired (how incompetant is the chef who serves the same side dish with almost all the entrees listed on their menu???), it was the harsh, ill-mannered waitress that would scarcely make it as a bar-maid at a hole-in-the-wall dive bar that really made our experience unenjoyable. I suspect that the few patrons who enjoyed their experience only did so because they have little to compare it to whilst dining in Orillia.

We wold like to add that the wine that was first requested was priced at 42.50 for the Shiaz by tall poppy yes they were out of this wine and the only other shiraz was the 59.50 bottle of reif Estate VQA what the server should have done was given back the wine menu . in respect the guest paid actually for a lessor priced bottle of Kitling ridge Cabernet at 28.00 and the server was required to pay the rest of the mistake to make up for the 59.50 because of this error. As I was present the guests timeline is off by a bit and they were informed that this was the last day of the current wine menuas it was changing the next day.

The Food well The comment from the guests that it was a little over cooked but it was tasty and all of the paltes were clean as the reentered the kitchen at the end of the meal as for the side dishes, we are not like every other restaurant in the country and do not plan on being so with different sides as the size of our kitchen does not permit that every ones tastes are different and some do not like that compared to their favorite place elsewhere.
